Was new to the area and was so glad I found a spot near me, but that turned left after I kept going.First issue: I would not recommend the 2 goddess braids styles, it did not turn out well, especially at the ends. The technique was not neat and they did nothing to keep the ends in place but wrap it with a rubber band and did not even out the length of the hair. So one end was significantly longer than the other.Second Issue: They provide hair but seldom have a vast color selection to accommodate your hair color. So every-time I went, they'd ask me what color I want, and come out the back with either black or this really honey blonde.Final Occurrence : My final straw for me though was when I was quoted and confirmed a specific price for redoing the front edges of my box braids. It was simply 2 small rows of box braids to be done and I confirmed with both owners PRIOR to coming back and before coming for my redo. After I made the appointment, confirmed the price over the phone, and at the end of the style she up-charged me an extra $35 from what we JUST discussed, bringing my total of the bill to half of what it would cost for a full head. I would not have had a problem if this was discussed prior, but I was blind-sighted and her tone when she told me the price and her stammering and low which let me know she was trying to squeeze extra money out of me. I expressed my dissatisfaction and she just stood in front of me and held her hand out. I did not even have enough money on me to cover the whole significant up-charge because I withdrew the price we agreed upon plus the tip I was planning to give. Nonetheless, I calmly paid it because I am non-confrontational person, but I was extremely turned off by this and I cannot stomach giving my business to a place that is not honest in their practices. I was planning on bringing my family member and friend here to continue to support the business, but they just now lost a few customers over $35, when that money could have been multiplied overtime for more profit and a loyal clientele. This exchange took place with the older woman, as the younger woman in the shop was not present at the time. Beware !
Friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, and great service.
She does a wonderful job on my hair every time i come I never Have a problem always get what i asked for . And it comes out great
This is truly a place that does not deserve the low rating that others have given it! I almost didnt come here because of what others wrote, but I am beyond happy that I called Coumba and found her to be pleasant over the phone, which made me want to take a chance, as I needed my daughter's hair braided. To my pleasant surprise and for the first time in the 6 years I've been taking her to African Salons, my daughter didn't cry nor complaint about feeling any pain during styling. Just this alone, is worth the world to me. Now my daughter even gets excited about getting her hair braided. Not only is Coumba and the other lady gentle but they are also pleasant and professional. I'm even thinking about getting my Hispanic hair braided too At the front of the salon, there's a barbershop and I have also found them to be polite and professional. Even though I have to travel 35 to 45 minutes to get to Coumba I will definitely keep bringing my daughter to this place!!!!
I have been bring my daughter here to get braids for almost 2 years now. I have never had a less than great service from her. Excellent service and the price I feel is on the affordablity side of things.
